Active Shooter, Drug Abuse Defense Seminar

This is a free Community Self-Defense Seminar.

Trooper David Peters, a Pennsylvania State Police Community Services and Public Information Officer, will share some life-saving tips for how to survive an active shooter emergency. He will provide an easy-to-follow active shooter crisis plan followed by a brief question and answer session.

Ed Pane is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience in substance abuse counseling and he will share tips on how we can defend ourselves and loved ones from the dangers of drug abuse and addiction. He will also teach community members how to spot warning signs of drug use in our friends and family.

Donate Your Extra Halloween Candy

This Halloween we want to help Brandon's Forever Home "ensure children in foster care are not the "forgotten ones."" Parents may wonder what to do with all of the Halloween candy their kids will bring home after trick-or-treating. Most parents help eat it, throw it in the trash, or take it with them to their place of employment. The students at Mountain Valley Family Martial Arts have a better idea for getting rid of your excess holiday candy: Donate it!

To do this, Sensei Nevin Baskin and his students are holding a Halloween Candy Donation Drive from October 28 to November 8 at their karate school, located in the Church Hill Mall in Hazleton. People can bring their leftover candy to the dojo and the candy will be taken to Brandon's Forever Home on Saturday, November 10th.

The Halloween candy donated by the community will go to Brandon's Forever Home (BFH) in Hazleton. BFH does so many wonderful things for our community and we believe in supporting them. For more information on Brandon's Forever Home, visit them at www.brandonsforeverhome.com.

Halloween Candy Donation Drive

Halloween Candy Donation Drive

With Halloween fast approaching, Mountain Valley Family Martial Arts plans to help the children in our community stay healthy while supporting families facing a serious medical crisis. To do this, Sensei Nevin Baskin is holding a Halloween Candy Donation Drive from October 30 to November 9 at the dojo, located in the Church Hill Mall in Hazleton. People can bring their leftover candy to the dojo and the candy will be taken to the Ronald McDonald House of Danville on the weekend of November 11-12.

The Halloween candy donated by the community will go to families who have a seriously injured or ill child, from birth through age 21, who is currently in treatment. The parents and siblings of these young patients, who are often far from their familial support systems, can stay at the Ronald McDonald House of Danville to remain close to their child in treatment.
